🗝️ Building a safe and supportive environment is key for encouraging a man to be vulnerable.

Men put up a wall just like us women do because of the hurt and pain they have endured during their lifetime. This could have been from childhood or past relationships where they trusted someone and they were let down. They find it hard to open up and be vulnerable due to such circumstances. It is our job to help them to understand that not everyone they come into contact with is going to betray them.

When I first met my husband we both had our walls up. I knew that if our relationship was going to flourish, we needed to break down these walls together.

I decided to open up about my own vulnerabilities. I shared stories from my past, moments where I felt deeply hurt and how I built walls to protect myself. As I spoke, I could see the tension in his shoulders ease a bit, the guarded look in his eyes softening. I wasn’t asking him to open up just yet; I was simply showing him that it was okay to be vulnerable.

Over time, I continued to share my own experiences, creating a safe space for him to feel comfortable doing the same. I didn’t push or pry, but I made sure he knew that his feelings and experiences were valid and important to me. Gradually, he began to share small pieces of his own story.

One of the turning points came during a particularly rough patch in our relationship. We had a disagreement that left us both feeling misunderstood and hurt. Instead of retreating into our shells, we sat down and talked it out. I expressed my feelings honestly, without blame or accusation, and encouraged him to do the same. It was in that moment that he truly opened up, revealing fears and insecurities that I had never known existed.

It wasn’t an overnight transformation, but a gradual journey of building trust and understanding. Here are some steps that helped us along the way:

✨You must create a safe space. A man needs this in order to let his guard down. He needs to know that you are his peace when life gets challenging. Encourage open communication by demonstrating understanding and acceptance of his feelings and experiences. Make sure this is a non-judgmental zone.

✨Be vulnerable yourself. Leading by example can show him that it’s ok to express vulnerability. Share your own thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a genuine and honest manner, demonstrating trust in him. By you opening up to him allows him to reciprocate that same energy.

✨Building Trust: Trust is essential for vulnerability. Take steps to build trust in your relationship by being reliable, keeping confidences, and showing genuine concern for his well-being. Show him that you are consistent with your day to day actions. Allow him to build that trust by doing what you say you are going to do. There is nothing more important to a man than knowing his woman has his back!

Before you know it, he will be telling you things you never even imagined!
